MEP

While attending the 65th Annual Key Club International Convention in Denver, Colorado, we were told the new Major Emphasis Project (MEP) that we will serve as our MEP from 2008-2010. High Five for Health had been our MEP for the past two years, ever since being introduced at the International Convention in Boston. High Five for Health focused on the physical health and activeness of children. Live 2 Learn is a program geared towards 5-9 year olds and our new Major Emphasis Project. Live 2 Learn has three main parts: improving grades, giving back, and growing together.
Improving grades is pretty self explanatory but there are many ways to help younger kids with their grades. You could start an after school program at your elementary school, tutor kids during your study hall, and even incorporate our old season of service read and lead into the mix. Giving back is about teaching young children how important it is to give back to your community, your teachers, and your family.  You can teach them this by having them color thank you cards for their teachers, having a teacher appreciation breakfast, or even by helping them make a calendar for their parents. Growing together is probably the most fun out of all three aspects of Live 2 Learn. Growing together pushes helping children be creative in their life, so it really encourages arts and crafts and imagination. You can help children be creative by having them makeup their own plays, helping them make a kite to fly, or by making any other craft that takes creativity.
Please join Key Clubbers around the nation in participating in the new Major Emphasis Project, Live 2 Learn for the next two years. Each club will be receiving a cd in the mail that will go more in depth about service projects you can do under Live 2 Learn. I hope you all take the opportunity to participate in this program because these children are our future.

Seasons of Service

Hospitalized infants and children need special pharmaceuticals and equipment engineered to work with their small stature. From the tiniest tube or milliliter of medication to ECMO, a formidable device that acts as an artificial lung outside the body, medicines and machines that help sick kids get well are specialized - and high priced. Skilled pediatric professionals armed with evolving treatments and expensive tools work to save more than 14 million children annually from life-threatening injuries, birth defects, cancer, and numerous other ailments.
As some of you may know Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) is Key Clubs summer service partner, and it’s my job to let you know a little more about CMN. Being partnered with Key Club since 1996, Children’s Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids and increases awareness of its member hospitals.  All CMN contributions directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs, and provide healthcare for children whose parents can't afford to pay. Besides helping raise funds for CMN, Key Clubbers can volunteer at their local children’s hospital in a number of ways. I know that can be pretty difficult due to the fact that Montana only has one but you can still volunteer at your local hospital and the major way to donate to Children’s Miracle Network is by Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day on August 10th. During the past 22 years, Dairy Queen operators throughout the United States and Canada have raised more than $59 million for CMN.
Please join me and Key Clubbers around the world in working with our service partner Children’s Miracle Network. I hope all of you clubs get out there and participate in this season of service and continue your service to your home, school, and community.

Looking forward to seeing you at future District Events

A word from our Governor...

Hey fellow Key Clubbers! First of all, thank you all who attended our 60th annual Montana District Convention! I know we all had a blast. Many of you already know who I am, and I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting many of you already, and I can do nothing but look forward to this next year and meeting each of you as your governor. Also, if you're reading this, then congratulations on making it to our website! It's a great resource and there is endless knowledge that can be found here. Take a look around, check out the gallery (Pay attention to all the Key Clubbers having a blast at DCON), and soak in all the information you can. I'd like to also take a moment to talk about International Convention. This year it's being held in Denver, CO. Last year's ICON was a total blast, and this year's will not let down. I can easily say that those two weeks of last years convention and tour surpass any other two weeks I've experienced. I encourage every single one of you to at least sign up for info on International, and I encourage you even further to raise money so that you are able to go this year, as the charge is $1,100. I've chosen Project Life as my governor's project, as I feel suicide is a very important issue in this great state of ours and it needs to be addressed. Please check out the project life website (linked to at the top of this page), and try to incorporate it into your club as you see fit.

This year is going to be a great one, that much I'm sure of, and I can't wait to serve each and every one of you to the absolute best of my abilities and more.

Yours In Service,

Christian Jackson
